We caught up with this year’s shortlisted authors to quiz them on their favourite books, the best advice they’ve received, their greatest annoyances, and more

Encapsulating a range of experiences, the six books shortlisted for the Booker Prize 2025 transport readers from Hungary to Japan, from India to New York.

The shortlisted books and their authors are Flashlight by Susan Choi, The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny by Kiran Desai, Audition by Katie Kitamura, The Rest of Our Lives by Ben Markovits, The Land in Winter by Andrew Miller and Flesh by David Szalay

Keen to get to know the authors a little better, we called all six authors to ask them about some pressing issues, such as…

What’s the one book that made them fall in love with reading, and what do they wish they’d written themselves? How would they sum up their shortlisted book in six words, and how would they spend their Booker Prize winnings?

Watch our quickfire Q&A video to find out. The winner of the Booker Prize 2025 will be announced on Monday, 10 November.
