Enter your child or pupil for the chance to be a Children’s Booker Prize judge

In April, we launched a UK-wide competition to find three child judges to select the winner of the Children’s Booker Prize 2027

The Children’s Booker Prize supported by AKO Foundation is a new annual prize celebrating the best fiction for children aged eight to 12 years old. Its aim is to engage and grow a new generation of readers.

The prize will be judged by a mixed panel of adult and child judges. The three adult judges, who will select a shortlist of eight books to be announced on 24 November 2026, are:

  • Frank Cottrell-Boyce (Chair of judges) – multi-award-winning children’s book author, screenwriter and the current Waterstones Children’s Laureate;
  • Lolly Adefope – acclaimed actor, writer and comedian;
  • Sanchita Basu De Sarkar – award-winning children’s bookseller and owner of the Children’s Bookshop in Muswell Hill, London.

In April 2026, the Booker Prize Foundation launched a nationwide search for three children aged eight to 12 from across the UK to join the adult judges to choose the winning book, to be announced on 2 February 2027. The process will give children a direct voice in the outcome, ensuring the winning book is a recommendation from young readers to their peers.
