Chris Smith, Baron Smith of Finsbury, is a British politician, formerly the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.

A Kennedy Scholar at Harvard University, he first gained his degree in English at Cambridge, where he went on to also gain his PhD with a thesis on Coleridge and Wordsworth. He is currently Chairman of the Wordsworth Trust. A member of the Labour party, he is a former Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister. After over 20 years in Parliament, he stepped down from the House of Commons at the 2005 general election and in 2005 was created a life peer as Baron Smith of Finsbury. He is a former Chair of the London Cultural Consortium (2005-08) and was chairman of the Environment Agency (2008-14). Since 2015 he has been Master of Pembroke College, Cambridge.
