The Booker Prize is the leading literary award in the English speaking world, and has brought recognition, reward and readership to outstanding fiction for over five decades. Each year, the prize is awarded to what is, in the opinion of the judges, the best sustained work of fiction written in English by an author of any nationality, and published in the UK and/or Ireland.
The International Booker Prize is the world’s most influential award for translated fiction. It is awarded annually to the author and translator of the best (in the opinion of the judges) eligible work of long-form fiction or collection of short stories written by an author of any nationality and translated into English, and published in the UK and/or Ireland.
Only publishers based in the UK and/or Ireland can submit entries to the prizes. Authors, translators and agents are not permitted to enter the prizes directly.
The winner of each prize receives £50,000, while winners and shortlisted authors are guaranteed a global readership and can expect a dramatic increase in book sales.
