Although Justin Haythe hit the accolade trail with his first novel, The Honeymoon, cinema has proved a bigger pull than fiction, and he is a successful screenwriter who pays little attention to genre.

The Honeymoon, which relates the story of a rootless young man whose marriage and opinionated mother are both ailing, seems a strange novel to come from the man partly responsible for the script of The Lone Ranger and the producer of the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. Haythe’s literary credentials were clearer in his adaptation of Richard Yates’ novel Revolutionary Road. However, while his films - some nine to date - continue to be shot, his mooted plans for a second novel to build on that early promise have yet to materialise.
