John Banville was born in Wexford, Ireland. His novel The Sea won the Booker Prize in 2005
Banville is the author of more than works of fiction, including a short story collection, and several mysteries written under the pseudonym Benjamin Black.
His novel Ancient Light won the Irish Book Award. In addition to winning the Booker Prize 2005, he was also shortlisted for his entire body of work, for the International Booker Prize 2007.
In 2011, Banville won the Franz Kafka Prize. He lives in Dublin.
