Thompson’s non-fiction books include Peter Cook: A Biography and Penguins Stopped Play. His historical novel,This Thing of Darkness, was published just before his untimely death, and longlisted for the 2005 Booker Prize. He worked as a producer at Talkback TV and his television credits as a producer include the hit British panel shows Have I Got News for You, They Think It’s All Over and Never Mind the Buzzcocks and in his spare time he ran the infamous cricket team, the Captain Scott XI.
